Oxford Medical Products (OMP) is a UK-based, clinical stage, VC-backed biotechnology start-up that has developed an affordable and accessible weight-loss treatment for the world's population. Excessive weight affects almost 2 billion people worldwide yet current treatment options including bariatric surgery, gastric balloons and pharmacotherapies are largely unavailable for the majority of these individuals. 'Sirona', our proprietary hydrogel pill is designed to work like a gastric balloon without the expense or need for any hospital visits. Sirona swells in the stomach and remains there for a prolonged period, reducing hunger and thereby achieving weight loss. A constant effect can be achieved through re-dosing. Losing weight is incredibly hard. Indeed, dieting fails to be effective for 95% of people. Bariatric surgery is highly effective but too expensive and invasive for most individuals. There is an urgent need for a new approach.
